About the Event
Rebecca Solnit’s The Beginning Comes After the End is a collection of essays about hope, change, community, and the stories we tell about the future. In many ways, it feels like a wrap-up several books we’ve read together—echoing the ecological wisdom of Braiding Sweetgrass, the interconnectedness explored in Finding the Mother Tree, and resonating with themes of anti-racism, aging, and mindful presence found in the work of Thich Nhat Hanh, as well as the themes we’ll encounter in our upcoming read by Pema Chödrön.
Solnit takes a wide and long look at the past 50-60 years to offer an encouraging look at how far we have come and how uncertainty can become fertile ground for transformation, and what it means to participate in a world that is constantly becoming. As always, no expertise is required—just curiosity, openness, and a willingness to think together.
